Karachi (Urdu Times) Karachi In a tragic incident in Karachi’s Surjani Town, Sector 36-A near Aqsa Mosque, three laborers lost their lives due to toxic gas exposure during a sewer cleaning operation.
According to sources, the workers were performing duties under a private contractor without any safety equipment when they were suffocated by the sudden release of poisonous gas inside the manhole.
Rescue teams reached the site shortly after being alerted and retrieved the bodies, which were later shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Following the incident, Chairman Manghopir Town Haji Nawaz Ali Brohi and concerned Union Council representatives arrived at the scene. However, the situation turned tense when unidentified miscreants resorted to stone-pelting.
Chairman Haji Nawaz Ali Brohi expressed deep sorrow and grief over the loss of precious human lives. He stated that a thorough inquiry into the incident would be conducted and strict action would be taken against the responsible contractor based on the findings of the report. He also demanded legal action against those involved in the stone-pelting.
Later, Chairman Haji Nawaz Ali Brohi, Senior Vice President Siddiq Akbar, and Deputy Commissioner West Ali Zulfiqar Memon visited the hospital, where they met the bereaved families and assured them of full cooperation and support.
