Rawalpindi (Urdu Times) The closure of the main routes of Raja Bazaar has restricted wholesale business activities in Mughal Sarai Market and other nearby markets, while traders continue to face a difficult business situation.Speaking on the matter, President of the Mughal Sarai Market Traders Association Sheikh Shabbir Ahmed, Senior Vice President Sheikh Muhammad Ejaz, and General Secretary Chaudhry Rais said that the renovation of Raja Bazaar was necessary keeping public facilities in mind, but there was also a need to understand the business conditions and commercial activities of the area, which was overlooked. They said that Raja Bazaar and its adjoining markets have been major wholesale business centers from the very beginning.Wholesale markets here deal in cloth, shoes, garments, crockery and almost all other daily-use items. Besides local buyers, people from across the country and even from abroad visit these markets for shopping.
The traders said that it was the responsibility of the government to protect the rights of wholesale traders who are doing business and regularly paying taxes. They said customers already face difficulties in carrying heavy goods from wholesale markets, while the closure of the main routes for bringing goods into and taking them out of the markets has forced both traders and buyers to pay high and arbitrary charges to cart vendors. They said the situation has become worse because public transport is also unable to reach Raja Bazaar. As a result, customers are turning towards other markets. This has badly affected hundreds of traders in Raja Bazaar and nearby wholesale markets, including Mughal Sarai Market, Ghausia Market, Momin Centre, Waris Market, Akbar Market, Faisal Market and Bazaar Talwaran.
