Terrorism is a common challenge and its burden cannot be placed on any one country. Afghanistan should ask India what happened to them when they messed with Pakistan. This is the first visit to India by a senior Taliban official since the group took power in 2021, during which both sides agreed to improve relations. There was unprovoked firing on the Pak-Afghan border from Afghanistan, to which the Pakistan Army responded forcefully and effectively. Afghan forces fired at several places including Angor Adda, Bajaur, Kurram, Dir, Chitral and Baramcha (Balochistan). It was further said that Pakistan is targeting terrorist camps and Khawarij, ISIS hideouts inside Afghanistan near the Pak-Afghan border with utmost precision, and Afghan forces have retreated from many areas. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi urged both Afghanistan and Pakistan to exercise restraint. Saudi Arabia also expressed concern over the clashes and said that the kingdom calls for restraint, de-escalation, dialogue and wisdom so that peace and stability can be maintained in the region.
The Qatari Foreign Ministry also appealed to both countries to prioritize dialogue, diplomacy and restraint and said that differences should be resolved in a manner that helps reduce tensions and promote regional peace and stability.

Last week, tensions between the two countries increased due to statements and clashes.
After the recent terrorist incidents in Pakistan, Islamabad has repeatedly asked Kabul not to allow Afghan soil to be used against Pakistan. Defense Minister Khawaja Asif had said in parliament that enough is enough, the patience of the government and the Pakistani armed forces has paid off. On the other hand, Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi condemned the blast in Kabul at a press conference in New Delhi and blamed Pakistan. This visit was India’s first high-level contact with the Taliban government. DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry did not confirm or deny the attacks in a conversation with reporters but said that necessary steps would be taken to protect Pakistani lives and property. The Foreign Ministry also said that Pakistan’s actions were being taken under the guise of ‘self-defense’ against terrorism originating from Afghan soil.
