KARACHI (Urdu Times) KARACHI The protest by the Young Doctors Association (YDA) against the worsening security crisis at the National Institute of Child Health (NICH), Karachi, continued for the fourth consecutive day.
\nOn the fourth day of the protest, Special Health Secretary Shahryar Memon met with the hospital administration and representatives of the Young Doctors Association. The meeting was attended by Executive Director Dr. Nasir Saleem Suddle, YDA Sindh Chairman Dr. Mehboob Ali Noonari, YDA NICH President Dr. Fayyaz Butt, General Secretary Dr. Sana Gur, along with a team of doctors.
\nDuring the meeting, both the hospital administration and YDA representatives briefed the Special Health Secretary on the severe security crisis at the hospital and the increasing incidents of violence. The YDA representatives presented their demands regarding security at NICH in particular, as well as the broader issue of ensuring the safety of doctors and hospitals across Sindh.
\nOn this occasion, the hospital administration and the Special Health Secretary acknowledged that all of the doctors’ demands were legitimate and expressed their agreement. The Special Health Secretary assured the participants that these demands would be forwarded to the higher authorities for approval. However, neither the hospital administration nor the Health Secretariat announced any concrete measures or arrangements that could be implemented immediately to ensure the safety of doctors, patients, and healthcare workers.
\nThe Young Doctors Association stated that similar verbal assurances have been made repeatedly over the past five years, yet they have never been implemented. Furthermore, neither the hospital administration nor the Health Secretariat has issued any written or official notifications. According to the association, the matter has been reduced to bureaucratic jargon and hollow promises aimed at avoiding responsibility.
\nIn view of this alarming situation and the failure to take immediate practical measures, the Young Doctors Association announced that its protest will continue for a fifth consecutive day. The boycott of outpatient departments (OPDs) and new admissions to hospital wards will also remain in effect due to the ongoing security risks faced by patients, doctors, and other healthcare staff until the security crisis is resolved.
\nHowever, all Intensive Care Units (ICUs), emergency services, operating theatres, cancer ward admissions, and other emergency ward services will remain fully operational, where doctors will continue to perform their duties and provide essential medical care responsibly.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
