Iranian President Masoud Peshkeshian arrived in Pakistan on a one-day visit, where he was warmly welcomed by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Shahbaz Sharif said in his address that the path to a comprehensive peace agreement will be paved during the next 60 days, which will result in reducing tensions and promoting peace and stability at the global level. The Prime Minister further said that a ceasefire has been reached between Iran and the US, which is a positive development and will further strengthen the negotiation process. He expressed the hope that the two countries will be able to resolve their differences through dialogue and diplomacy. During his address, the Prime Minister also mentioned the political situation in the country and criticized the opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. He said that today was not the day to raise controversial issues, but rather to express solidarity on issues of national and international importance. Shahbaz Sharif said that if Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is so keen on investigations, then the investigations should be started from 2018 so that all the issues can be brought before the nation. The Prime Minister has announced that the first round of high-level talks between the US and Iran under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has been successfully completed. Pakistan and Qatar have played an important role as mediators in this historic process of reconciliation, on the success of which Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed deep satisfaction. In this first phase of negotiations, a formal roadmap has been approved for reaching a final peace agreement between the US and Iran within the next sixty days. The senior negotiators of these groups will regularly submit their reports to this high-level committee so that old disputes can be eradicated. Major decisions have also been taken between the two countries to reduce the ongoing tensions in the region and secure maritime trade. A direct line of communication has been established between the two countries to ensure the peaceful passage of commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz and to avoid any kind of misunderstanding or accident. Along with this, it has also been agreed to form a special de-confliction cell, i.e. a peace committee, to completely stop military operations and war in Lebanon so that the peace and order situation can be closely monitored there. On the other hand, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, while talking about the results of these talks, has made a big claim separately that a great progress has been made to end the ongoing war in Lebanon. He mentioned the great economic benefits received by Iran and said that \u201cthe United States has lifted the strict sanctions on Iran\u2019s oil exports and some of Iran\u2019s frozen assets and billions of rupees of funds that were blocked around the world have also been restored.\u201d He further said that after this great success, a huge project will now be launched for the reconstruction and development of Iran.
