(PR) The suspension of pension for over 250 pensioners, widows, and orphans of PSB Pensioners responsible for making Pakistan’s historic sporting events successful—has turned out to be a complex web of alleged misplaced priorities rather than a simple administrative delay. The facts brought forward by the Pensioners Action Committee have pulled back the curtain on the underlying factors behind this severe humanitarian crisis. According to highly reliable sources, the financial grant heads received by the institution from the federal government, which were allocated including for the pension of retired employees, were allegedly re-appropriated to cover the international tours and revival expenses of the Pakistan Hockey Federation. Pensioners charge that the primary driver behind diverting this budget is that a single high-ranking official simultaneously holds key charges of the Ministry of IPC, Pakistan Sports Board and the Pakistan Hockey Federation. This multi-hatting made it structurally effortless to execute such an arbitrary and unilateral decision. Elderly employees whose ages exceed 60 years and who have no other breadwinners at home are bearing the brunt of this “preferential funding.” Owing to intense psychological stress and the unavailability of medicines, one Mali died due to heart attack and Head Waiter & one Director of the institution have suffered debilitating paralytic strokes and are currently on their deathbeds. According to recent judgments of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, pension is an constitutional and legal right of employees, not a charity, and it cannot be withheld for any other purpose.The pensioners have appealed to the Federal Minister for IPC Rana Sanaullah Khan and apex judiciary to take immediate notice of this abuse of power and illegal transfer of funds. They have demanded an end to the nominal revival of the national sport at the cost of snatching food from innocent orphans and widows. Furthermore, they urged the immediate restoration of the pensioners’ pending pension dues (three months pension) from the current budget of the Fiscal Year 2026-27 so that the medical treatment and other necessity of the critically ill retirees can be made possible.
