ISLAMABAD (Urdu Times) Path of Truth: Pakistan-China Media—A Modern Digital Counter to Propaganda

Share

ISLAMABAD (Urdu Times) The history of the enduring, seven-decade-long relationship between Pakistan and China bears witness to the fact that both nations have stood by each other with sincere commitment through every difficult juncture, conflict, and economic crisis. To elevate this unique “iron-clad friendship” to new heights in the economic and strategic spheres, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was launched. Its first phase brought revolutionary changes to Pakistan’s communication infrastructure and energy sector. However, as CPEC entered its second phase—which focuses on industrial cooperation, modern agriculture, and the transfer of IT—this grand economic initiative and the strategic partnership between Pakistan and China were met with a barrage of “fake news” and negative propaganda on an international scale. To counter this organized, misleading narrative on scientific, rational, and modern digital grounds, both countries have established a revolutionary framework termed the “China-Pakistan Information Corridor” (CPIC).

The most significant, dynamic, and foundational pillar of this information corridor is the “China-Pakistan Media Consortium and News Exchange Network.” Officially launched in Islamabad by Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar and Chinese officials—coinciding with the Diamond Jubilee of China-Pakistan diplomatic relations—this media consortium serves as a powerful alliance comprising 18 leading media houses, news agencies, and strategic think tanks from both nations. The consortium’s first formal regional office has been established in Karachi, Pakistan’s economic and media hub. The core philosophy behind this strategic alliance is that, just as Phase I of CPEC connected the lands and roads of the two countries, this media consortium will now connect the hearts and minds of the two brotherly nations based on the principles of truth, while mounting a robust defense against the intellectual machinations of adversaries.

A key instrument of this media consortium is a “joint fact-checking system,” designed to scientifically monitor misleading reports and fabricated rumors circulating against CPEC and China-Pakistan relations. Previously, media organizations from both countries operated independently to address negative propaganda, which often resulted in delayed responses. Under this consortium, monitoring cells from both countries keep a 24-hour watch on digital platforms. As soon as any suspicious or false news emerges, they immediately present an authentic narrative—grounded in facts and documented evidence—to the world. This system serves as a digital shield against the one-sided and biased narratives often propagated by global media.

Another key feature of this media consortium is the “direct exchange of content,” which has completely eliminated the need to rely on Western news agencies. Media organizations from Pakistan and China now directly exchange news, economic reports, informative videos, and documentaries. Through this initiative, the tangible economic progress achieved under Phase II of CPEC—including the operationalization of industrial zones, modern agricultural reforms, and the vibrant cultural tapestry of both nations—is being conveyed to the public in its true and authentic form. In addition, the consortium has introduced a modern digital podcast network, which brings to the world the real-life stories of ordinary citizens benefiting from CPEC projects, as well as insights from Chinese and Pakistani experts and successful business figures.

To ensure the long-term sustainability of this modern corridor of information, special emphasis is being placed on human resource development. Under the consortium, regular exchange and training programs have been initiated for journalists, anchors, and digital media influencers from both nations. Through this initiative, young professionals from the Pakistani media sector are given the opportunity to visit state-of-the-art media houses in China, where they receive high-quality training in Artificial Intelligence (AI), big data, and advanced digital broadcasting technologies. This training not only assists in modernizing Pakistani journalism but also cultivates a new generation of young professionals who are emerging as ambassadors of truth in the digital realm.

Moving beyond traditional journalism, the Pakistan-China Media Consortium has evolved into a strategic framework built upon a solid foundation of truth and mutual trust. This alliance serves as a historic and pivotal milestone for both nations—fostering regional peace, economic stability, and the widespread realization of the tangible benefits of CPEC—while safeguarding the bright future of the “iron-clad” Pakistan-China friendship against the shadows of propaganda. The 75-year history of Pakistan-China relations stands as a unique and enduring example of an “iron-clad” friendship—a bond unparalleled in the annals of global diplomatic history. Established on May 21, 1951, these diplomatic ties have withstood every test of time; today, they are described as being “higher than the Himalayas, deeper than the oceans, and sweeter than honey.” The foundations of this timeless friendship began to solidify in the 1960s, marked by a historic border agreement and the launch of PIA flights to Beijing. Subsequently, engineers and laborers from both nations—through their collective blood, sweat, and toil—constructed the magnificent “Silk Road” (the Karakoram Highway), often hailed as the “Eighth Wonder of the World.” Through every challenging moment—be it war, natural disaster, or international political pressure—both nations have consistently extended sincere and unconditional support to one another. While Pakistan has openly championed China’s security, the “One-China” policy, and its positions on various global platforms, China has, in turn, steadfastly defended Pakistan’s territorial sovereignty.

This enduring partnership extends far beyond mere political rhetoric; it has manifested as a robust reality within the defense and economic spheres. Projects such as the joint production of JF-17 Thunder fighter jets and the Al-Khalid tank serve as clear testament to the profound defense-related trust shared between the two nations. Similarly, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has transformed this historic friendship into a catalyst for a major economic revolution. Under the first phase of CPEC, the construction of the Gwadar Port, the development of a nationwide motorway network, and the establishment of numerous power plants played a pivotal role in helping Pakistan overcome its energy and infrastructure crises. This “iron-clad friendship” has now entered a sophisticated second phase, which extends beyond traditional infrastructure. It focuses on revolutionary advancements in modern agriculture, livestock, information technology, and industrial cooperation—all aimed at boosting Pakistani exports and creating new local employment opportunities.

At the public and cultural levels, the two nations have grown remarkably close. Thousands of Pakistani students are pursuing higher education in China, while there is a rapidly growing interest in learning the Chinese language and culture within Pakistan. Whether during the COVID-19 pandemic or in the wake of devastating floods, China has consistently been the first to provide aid and technical support. This relationship has evolved beyond a mere intergovernmental connection into a bond between the hearts of the two peoples. Coupled with a new, advanced era of cooperation in agriculture, science, and modern industry, this partnership serves as a guarantee for regional prosperity, economic stability, and a bright future for both nations.

The formal launch of CPEC Phase 2 (CPEC 2.0) shifts the focus from infrastructure and energy projects toward industrialization, business-to-business (B2B) partnerships, and the transfer of advanced technology—all with the objective of generating employment opportunities in Pakistan and increasing local exports. Under the Government of Pakistan’s “5Es” framework and the 2025–2029 action plan, this second phase is organized into five key thematic corridors: Growth, Livelihood, Innovation, Green Energy, and Regional Connectivity. To accelerate industrial development, four of the nine major Special Economic Zones (SEZs)—namely the Allama Iqbal Industrial City in Faisalabad, the Rashakai Zone in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Dhabeji Zone in Sindh, and the Bostan Zone in Balochistan—have become partially operational. Within these zones, Chinese companies have been granted incentives, including a 10-year tax holiday and duty-free import facilities.

Agriculture has been accorded top priority in this phase. During the recently held Pak-China Agricultural Investment Conference, 78 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth $4.5 billion were signed. These agreements facilitate the transfer of expertise and resources to Pakistan in areas such as corporate farming, new hybrid seed varieties (particularly for rice and cotton), modern irrigation systems, and pest control technology. In the Information Technology sector, the recently launched “Pak-China Information Corridor” (CPIC) serves to connect IT companies, media houses, and think tanks from both nations. Furthermore, as part of a human resource development initiative, there is a plan to enable 10,000 Pakistani students to pursue PhDs at top Chinese universities in cutting-edge fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, and Robotics.

The Pak-China Information Corridor is a component of the second phase of CPEC (CPEC 2.0). This is a revolutionary and strategic digital framework, officially launched in Islamabad to mark the historic occasion of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China. Unveiled in the presence of Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning, and Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, the initiative is rooted in the philosophy that while Phase 1 of CPEC connected the lands and economies of the two nations, the ‘Information Corridor’ will now connect the hearts and minds of their people. A primary objective of this endeavor is to effectively counter—on a scientific and digital basis—the negative propaganda and ‘fake news’ spread internationally against CPEC and Pakistan-China relations, by utilizing authentic facts and collaborative fact-checking.The Pak-China Information Corridor is a revolutionary and strategic digital framework for the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
